Instrumental & Vocal Music

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.

-Victor Hugo

Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music currently offers three different performing ensembles. The String Orchestra is open to any student who plays a traditional orchestral instrument; violin, viola, cello, and bass. The Concert Band is the intermediate level wind ensemble open to wind, percussion, and string bass players. The Symphonic Band is the advanced level wind ensemble featuring winds, percussion and string bass.

Instrumental Music students will learn and perform music representing a diverse selection of composers and music in different styles, and from different historical periods. Students will also have the opportunity and be encouraged to perform in small ensembles throughout the year.

Vocal Music

ArtQuest’s Vocal Music has a strong tradition of excellence in performance and providing a high quality music education. Vocal Music comprises four choral groups; A Cappella, Las Choralistas, Concert Choir, and Chamber Choir. Each group performs at three main concerts a year, as well as several other choral events locally and on tour.

In contrast to other ArtQuest specialties, vocal ensembles consist of only one hour of rehearsal per day. Regardless of vocal level, all choral music classes focus on the day-to-day rehearsal process. It is a goal of the program to build musicians out of singers. This means the continuing development of music reading skills including interval recognition, rhythmic proficiency and musical vocabulary development. Most class levels are determined through audition.
