Instructions for Registering Your Athlete

SportsNet Inc. provides secure online registration services for school athletic programs. Below are instructions for creating a parent/guardian user account and registering one or more athletes at Santa Rosa High School.

Important: The school will not receive your submission until you complete the entire process, ending with your final electronic signature on the last available screen. Be sure to check your email for a confirmation message after you have finished.

To Play a Sport at SRHS

Students interested in participating in sport must fill out an athletic packet online. Some sports require a concussion baseline test before participation, which is conducted through the school, ask the coaches or AD for detail. Students must have a 2.0 GPA or higher in the latest grading period (8th grade matters for incoming 9th graders) unweighted, not cumulative, to participate, otherwise a waiver- a GPA between 1.4 and 1.9- form can be filled out (communicate with the coach and athletic director for more information). Additionally, a physical dated after June 1 of the summer before the school year starts will be required for any sport during next school year. If you attended a different high school at some point, you must pick up and fill out NCS paperwork, see the ADs for paperwork.

Physicals

Santa Rosa Community Health (SRCH) and Santa Rosa High school have a long history of caring for our youth. As you may know, SRCH has a clinic specifically designed to meet the needs of our teens. Our teen clinic is the Elisa Allen Clinic, located behind EA High School. We provide care at low or no cost for all Sonoma County teens. Even though we have just begun summer, this is a great time for youth to make an appointment to get their sports physical well in advance of when they will need it for fall. We are open M-Th 8am to 5 / 8-3:30 on Fridays please feel free to have the students call to make an appointment. Appointments: 707-583-8777

Incoming 9th Graders

Coaches can have contact with incoming 9th graders/graduated 8th graders once these requirements are met:

• It is after May 1st

• The student-athlete is enrolled at SRHS

Occasionally students or parents have an issue, comment, or complaint they would like to see dealt with under the SRHS Athletics Department. To make this situation fair and effective, there is an order of steps we request students and parents follow:

1. Contact Coach of specific team
2. Contact Head Coach of program
3. Contact Athletic Director
4. Contact Assistant Principal in charge of Athletics
5. Contact Principal
6. Contact School District

We take issues, comments, and complaints seriously and will work to make sure all parties needs are met and satisfied to the best of our abilities.

Physical Education Credit

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CREDIT FORM

For those students interested in earning PE credit by playing a season of a school sport, the process and guidelines are as follows: Student-Athlete must not miss more than 10 days of participation, at the end of the season the Student-Athlete will receive the waiver form from his/her coach, or print the form, then acquire the appropriate signatures on the form, and turn it into the Athletic Director for processing all within two weeks after the last regular season game. Forms turned in after that are concerned late and not accepted.

Scholarship opportunities for student-athletes are available, get information from the College & Career Center or one of the ADs.

Title IX - prohibiting sex-based discrimination

What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (also known as Title IX, pronounced "title nine") is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including athletic programs. No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity operated by the Santa Rosa City Schools district (“District” or "SRCS").  Title IX protects all participants in the District’s educational programs and activities, including students, parents, employees, and job applicants.  The District does not discriminate on the basis of sex.  Discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual harassment and sexual violence.

In addition to Title IX, the California Education Code prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities in schools.  (Education Code sections 220-221.1.) Other state and federal laws also prohibit discrimination and ensure equality in education.

What are my rights under Title IX?

You have the following rights under Title IX, to the extent applicable at the District:

o    You have the right to fair and equitable treatment and shall not be discriminated against based on your sex.

o    You have the right to be provided with an equitable opportunity to participate in all extracurricular activities, including both academics and athletics.

o    You have the right to inquire of the athletic director at your school or appropriate District personnel as to the athletic opportunities offered by the school.

o    You have the right to apply for athletic scholarships if the District offers any.

o    You have the right to receive equitable treatment and benefits in the provision of all the following related to athletics, if any are provided by the District:

-Equipment and supplies;

-Scheduling of games and practices;

-Transportation and daily allowances;

-Access to tutoring;

-Coaching;

-Locker rooms;

-Practice and competitive facilities; 

-Medical and training facilities and services; and

-Publicity.

o    You have the right to have access to a sex/gender equity coordinator, referred to as the Title IX coordinator, to answer questions regarding sex/gender equity laws.

o    You have the right to contact the State Department of Education and the California Interscholastic Federation to access information on sex/gender equity laws.

o    You have the right to file a confidential discrimination complaint with the United States Department of Education Office for Civil Rights or the California Department of Education if you believe you have been discriminated against or if you believe you have received unequal treatment on the basis of your sex.

o    You have the right to pursue civil remedies if you have been discriminated against.

o    You have the right to be protected against retaliation if you file a discrimination complaint. (California Education Code section 221.8.)

SRCS's Responsibilities:

The District has the responsibility to respond promptly and effectively to sex-based discrimination complaints, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. If the District knows or reasonably should know about sex discrimination, it must take action to eliminate the sex discrimination, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects. The District must resolve complaints of sex discrimination promptly and equitably. Information on filing a complaint alleging sex-based discrimination is provided below, including information for contacting the District's Title IX Coordinator.

Filing a Complaint:

A complaint alleging unlawful discrimination or retaliation must be filed no later than six months from the date the discrimination or retaliation occurred, or six months from when the complainant first learned of the unlawful discrimination. The Superintendent or designee may extend this timeline by up to ninety days for good cause, upon written request by the complainant setting forth the reasons for the extension.

A student, parent, guardian, employee, individual, or organization may file a written complaint alleging discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying on the basis of a protected characteristic under SRCS's Uniform Complaint Procedure by sending a complaint to SRCS's Title IX Coordinator (contact information listed above).

If you need assistance putting your complaint in writing, please contact our SAFE office at 707-890-3800 x80418. You may file a complaint anonymously, but SRCS's ability to investigate and respond may be limited by a lack of information.

How SRCS Investigates Complaints

Complaints filed under SCOE's Uniform Complaint Procedure will be investigated and a decision made within sixty calendar days of the SRCS's receipt, unless the complainant agrees to an extension. SRCS's compliance officer or designee may interview alleged victims, alleged offenders, and relevant witnesses. The compliance officer may review available records, statements, or notes related to the complaint, including evidence or information received from the parties during the investigation. The compliance officer may visit reasonably accessible locations where discrimination is alleged to have occurred. As appropriate, SRCS's compliance officer periodically will inform the parties of the status of the investigation. The complainant will be notified when a decision is made. Complaints that are not filed under SRCS's Uniform Complaint Procedure will be investigated and decided pursuant to the applicable procedure.

What Happens After the Investigation

For complaints filed under the Uniform Complaint Procedure, the compliance officer will prepare and send a final written decision to the complainant and respondent, if any, within 15 working days of SRCS's receipt of the complaint (unless this deadline is extended by mutual agreement).

If the complainant or respondent is not satisfied with the decision, either the complainant or respondent may, within five business days, file the complaint in writing with the Board. The Board may consider the matter at a Board meeting or decide not to hear the complaint, in which case the compliance officer’s decision shall be final.

The complainant or respondent may appeal SRCS's decision within fifteen calendar days to the California Department of Education. The appeal must specify the reason for the appeal and whether SRCS's facts are incorrect and/or the law is misapplied. The appeal must include a copy of the original complaint to SRCS and a copy of SRCS's decision. For complaints alleging unlawful discrimination based on state law, the complainant may pursue available civil law remedies, including seeking assistance from mediation centers or public/private interest attorneys, sixty calendar days after filing an appeal with the California Department of Education. (California Education Code § 262.3.) Note that this sixty day moratorium does not apply to complaints seeking injunctive relief in state courts or to discrimination complaints based on federal law. (California Education Code § 262.3.)

If the compliance officer finds that a complaint has merit, SRCS will take appropriate corrective action.

SPORTS EQUITY INFORMATION

All schools are federally mandated to show proof that they are in compliance with Title IX.  Title IX is part of legislation included in the Education Amendments 1972.  It requires that if schools receive federal funds, equal opportunity must be provided to girls and women to compete in sports.
